The Federal Government has announced an improvement in electricity generation across Nigeria, with output rising from 3,951 megawatts to over 4,300 megawatts within a two-week period.
According to the Ministry of Power, the increase was recorded between March 28 and April 10, 2026, reflecting what it described as a steady upward trend in the country’s power supply.
The development follows a recent assurance by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who had pledged that electricity supply would improve within two weeks during a Power Sector Working Group meeting.
In a statement, the ministry said data from the period under review indicated a consistent rise in generation, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing power delivery to Nigerians.
It attributed the improvement largely to increased gas supply to thermal power plants, noting that supply rose from about 605 million standard cubic feet to over 704 million standard cubic feet within the same timeframe.
Officials said the enhanced gas availability played a critical role in boosting the performance of power generation companies, many of which rely on gas-fired infrastructure.
The ministry expressed optimism that the upward trend would be sustained, adding that ongoing efforts are focused on stabilising supply and improving overall efficiency in the power sector.
The government reiterated its commitment to addressing longstanding challenges in electricity generation and distribution as part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening the nation’s energy sector.
