President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, members of the Federal Executive Council, and governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress are set to converge on Abuja for the party’s national convention aimed at reshaping its leadership and future direction.
The two-day convention, scheduled to hold at the Eagle Square, is expected to attract more than 8,000 delegates, alongside party leaders from national, zonal, state, and ward levels, in what party insiders describe as a crucial moment for consolidation ahead of future elections.
Speaking at a pre-convention media briefing, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the gathering would serve as both a leadership transition platform and a policy engagement forum.
According to him, about 8,453 accredited delegates are expected to participate in leadership elections and policy discussions, while also reflecting on the party’s progress under President Tinubu.
He noted that the convention would highlight the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” describing it as central to the party’s policy direction and national development strategy.
The event, themed “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” is expected to strengthen alignment between the party’s internal structures and the policies of the current administration.
Idris assured that all logistical arrangements had been concluded to ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible exercise.
Also speaking, Chairman of the Convention’s Central Coordinating Committee and former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, dismissed concerns about potential disputes, insisting that the party’s zoning arrangement remains intact.
Masari stated that the APC had not been served with any court processes regarding the convention and reiterated the party’s commitment to its zoning principles, warning against attempts to disrupt the process.
He added that the party was fully prepared for the convention, expressing confidence that the exercise would proceed without disruption.
The convention is expected to play a significant role in defining the APC’s leadership structure and political direction ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
