The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory, Ahmed Sanusi, has disclosed that detention facilities under his command have been equipped with air conditioners to ensure humane treatment of suspects.
Sanusi made the disclosure during a press briefing in Abuja, stating that individuals in police custody deserve dignity and proper care.
He said suspects should not be treated as condemned persons, noting that their guilt or innocence can only be determined by a court of law.
According to him, providing improved conditions in detention is part of efforts to uphold human rights and build public confidence in the police.
He added that suspects who are treated well while in custody are more likely to develop a positive perception of the police after their release.
Sanusi also warned that individuals involved in manhole vandalism would be treated as economic saboteurs rather than ordinary offenders.
He said security agencies would intensify efforts to apprehend not only vandals but also those who purchase stolen materials, while night patrols would be strengthened to curb criminal activities across the territory.
The police commissioner recently assumed duty as the 35th CP of the Federal Capital Territory, reaffirming his commitment to improving policing standards and ensuring the safety and security of residents.
