The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has directed all political appointees intending to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign from their positions.
The directive was issued on Monday during the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Gusau, according to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris.
The statement said affected officials must resign on or before March 31, 2026.
It added that the Secretary to the State Government has been instructed to issue a circular to all political appointees seeking elective positions, while the Head of Service is to extend the directive to civil servants with similar ambitions.
According to the statement, the decision aligns with the provisions of the Electoral Act signed into law by President Bola Tinubu, as well as the 2027 election timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Governor Lawal reiterated his administration’s commitment to governance and the development of Zamfara State, stressing the need for public office holders to comply with laid-down regulations while pursuing political aspirations.
