The Cross River State House of Assembly has indefinitely suspended Dickson Agbor, the member representing Obubra I State Constituency, over allegations of violent conduct.
The resolution was passed on Thursday following a motion moved by Davies Etta and seconded by Francis Bassey Asuquo. The motion described Agbor’s alleged actions as behaviour unbecoming of a lawmaker and contrary to the ethical standards expected of members of the legislature.
The Assembly directed that Agbor be barred from all legislative activities pending the outcome of an investigation. An ad hoc committee was constituted to probe the allegations and report back to the House for further action. Agbor was escorted out of the chamber in line with the House’s directive.
Speaker Elvert Ayambem emphasized the importance of discipline and integrity among lawmakers, stating that the Assembly will not condone misconduct capable of bringing the legislature into disrepute.
Governor Bassey Otu and his wife, Eyoanwan Otu, had previously criticised Agbor’s alleged conduct, describing it as irresponsible. However, Agbor’s wife, Glory Agbor, called for privacy, saying the matter had been resolved within the family. She also apologised publicly to her husband and family and announced her withdrawal from the Legislators’ Wives Association.
The suspension remains in effect until the committee completes its investigation and submits its findings to the Assembly.
