The Nigerian Navy has intercepted 281.8 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa in Abia State and handed the illicit consignment over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and prosecution.
The drugs, packaged in 24 bags, were seized on March 2, 2026, by a patrol team from the Nigerian Navy College of Account and Finance during a routine security operation along the Aba–Owerri Expressway.
The confiscated narcotics were formally transferred to the NDLEA on March 3, 2026.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Commandant of the Nigerian Navy College of Account and Finance, Babatunde Usman Quadri, who was represented by Lieutenant Commander Peter Isaac Ogbe, reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to supporting internal security efforts through coordinated action with other security agencies.
Receiving the drugs on behalf of the NDLEA, Assistant Commander of Narcotics, Nnamdi Nwaolisa Kenneth, commended the Navy for its professionalism and collaboration.
He noted that sustained inter-agency cooperation remains vital in dismantling criminal networks and strengthening national security.
The seizure underscores ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Navy to combat illicit drug trafficking and enhance cooperation among security agencies in tackling organised crime.
