The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended President Bola Tinubu for allocating N5.41 trillion to security in the 2026 Appropriation Bill, describing the move as a major step toward dismantling criminal and terrorist networks across the country.
In a statement issued by the party’s state spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, the APC said the scale of the allocation demonstrates that the federal government is fully aware of Nigeria’s security challenges and determined to protect the nation’s future.
Oladejo noted that President Tinubu has placed security, which he described as the foremost responsibility of government, at the centre of his administration’s priorities by ensuring it receives significant attention and resources.
According to him, the objectives of the 2026 budget go beyond mere intent and are practical and measurable. He said the security funding is aimed at decisively weakening criminal and terrorist groups that threaten national unity and economic activities, restoring investor confidence by creating a safer environment, deepening economic reforms, and reinforcing social stability to enable citizens to pursue their livelihoods without fear.
The Lagos APC spokesman added that the primary focus of the 2026 Appropriation Bill is to consolidate national security gains, safeguard lives and property, and provide a stable foundation for economic recovery and sustainable growth.
He stressed that the budget proposal recognises that meaningful development cannot thrive in the absence of peace and safety. Oladejo further explained that the N5.41 trillion security allocation would support capacity enhancement for the Armed Forces and other security agencies, improved intelligence gathering and inter-agency cooperation, modernisation of equipment and operational logistics, as well as improved welfare and motivation for security personnel.
The party expressed confidence that the proposed funding, if effectively implemented, would strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and contribute significantly to national stability and development.
