President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), following the confirmation of the board members by the Senate on December 16.
According to the announcement, Dr Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni has been appointed Chairman of the Commission. Dr Oseni, who began his service at NERC as a commissioner in January 2017 and later served as Vice Chairman, assumed his new role on December 1, 2025. His tenure as chairman will run until the completion of his 10-year term in line with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.
Dr Yusuf Ali has been designated Vice Chairman of the Commission. He was first appointed as a commissioner in February 2022, with his appointment as vice chairman taking effect from December 1, 2025, and lasting until the end of his first term.
Other members of the reconstituted board include Nathan Rogers Shatti, who is serving a second term as commissioner after his initial appointment in January 2017; Dafe Akpeneye, also in his second term, having first been appointed in January 2017; and Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, who is serving her second term following her initial appointment in December 2020.
Dr Chidi Ike, first appointed as a commissioner in February 2022, is serving his first term on the board, while Dr Fouad Animashaun joins the commission for his first term, effective December 2025. Dr Animashaun is an energy economist with extensive experience in the Nigerian power sector and most recently served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
President Tinubu has charged members of the reconstituted NERC board to deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict compliance with the provisions and objectives of the Electricity Act, 2023.
