The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will formally receive Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, into the ruling party on Wednesday, ending months of speculation about his planned defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The development was confirmed on Saturday by the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, who said all arrangements had been finalized to welcome the governor.
“The entire National Working Committee members of the APC will receive Governor Kefas on November 19. We are prepared for the event,” Basiru said.
Kefas, one of the remaining PDP governors, has been widely rumored for nearly five months to be on the verge of switching allegiance to the APC.
Fourth PDP Governor to Defect
Once he joins the APC, Kefas will become the fourth PDP governor to defect this year.
- Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta) defected on April 23, 2025
- Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom) joined on June 6, 2025
- Douye Diri (Bayelsa) crossed over on November 3, 2025
His defection is expected to further strengthen the APC’s political footprint in the South-East and North-East regions ahead of future elections.
Event Scheduled for Jalingo
An official invitation card circulating on social media on Saturday indicated that the reception ceremony will hold at 1 pm at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
Governor Kefas’ move is expected to significantly reshape the political alignment within the state and further intensify conversations around the ongoing realignments between Nigeria’s major political parties.
