Monday October 13, 2025, the week begins on a note of honour for Hon. Adetola Adunni Abubakar. The Executive Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu receives an Award of Excellence, a Certificate for Exemplary Service & Governance to the Society and Ambassadorial Gold Medal all the way from the North of Nigeria!
The National Association of Northern Nigerian Students is the umbrella body for all students from the 19 Northern States of Nigeria. And they have come from all the way to seek out and confer hounours upon Hon. Adetola Abubakar. The top officials of the NANNS that came for this show of honour were:
Cmrd. Nafiu Yushau; President, National Association of Northern Nigerian Students
Cmrd. Umar Musa Salisu; Director of Special Duties
Cmrd. Ibrahim Adamu; Public Relations Officer
These youths came all the way from Kano representing all Students of Northern extraction to adopt the Executive Chairman of Agboyi Ketu, Hon. Adetola Adunni Abubakar as a Mentor and Matron!

Comrade Nafiu Yushau expressed the wishes of NANNS to congratulate Hon. Adetola Abubakar on her election as the Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA. He highlighted his Association’s support for the female gender as they regularly sensitize and encourage their northern parents and compatriots not to leave out the girl child in matters of education. NANNS is especially happy with the election of Hon. Abubakar being female, citing other global examples of Females in Leadership such as the first female and first African Director-General of World Trade Organization; Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Christine Lagarde, the French woman who was the first female Managing Director of IMF (International Monetary Fund) and currently President of European Central Bank, amongst a host of other notable female leaders globally and locally. All the way from Lagos to the North – through reports from resident beneficiaries of Northern extraction – the NANNS have heard from the children and youths of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA how their new Executive Chairman has impacted their lives so soon into her administration with her Back-to-School Boost, Free CGE forms, Spelling Bee Competition and other laudable programmes that get them looking forward to a promising, rewarding and inspiring tenure of the Council Chairman!

He hinted that the National Association of Northern Nigerian Students engages in enlightenment campaigns and advocacies for students to learn vocational trades and as such, they are in partnerships with institutions such as NASENI (National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure) and other such government agencies. They are indeed very happy with the Federal Government of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu GCFR for having fortified our educational curriculum by introducing various vocational studies and remodeling education in Nigeria. He also promised that the NANNS will use their various partnerships with government agencies to improve education for the girl child.

In her acceptance speech, Hon. Adetola Abubakar emphasized the need for the NANNS to work hard on educating the girl child and stem the tide of drug abuse amongst the youths of Northern Nigeria. These are two areas that resonate with her the most as she recalls her sojourn in northern Nigeria; she therefore has a fair knowledge of the lifestyle of the youths there. The girl-child must be given a chance to thrive in life through quality education. She noted that herself and the female global leaders mentioned by Yushau in his speech were all given a chance to get to where they are because they were educated. Drug abuse has become endemic in Northern Nigeria and so we all must work hard put a stop to it. The Chairman believes in the Nigerian youth and concerned about their welfare.

The meeting ended with the presentation of the various instruments of honour and recognition that the student body brought with them to honour Hon. Adetola Adunni Abubakar…
