September 30, 2025 – The Kano State House of Assembly on Monday received a formal request from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf seeking the confirmation of two commissioner-nominees to join the state executive council.
The correspondence, read by Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore during plenary, listed the nominees as Abdulkarim Rabiu Maude, SAN, and Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, the immediate past Director-General of the Kano State Bureau of Statistics.
In a statement, the Speaker’s spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, said the nominees were selected on the basis of “merit, integrity, and a proven track record of competence in public service.”
“Governor Yusuf has placed high priority on competence and integrity, and this is reflected in the calibre of nominees presented to the Assembly,” Shawai noted.
The Speaker announced that both nominees are expected to appear before lawmakers on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, for screening and possible confirmation.
“We shall carry out a thorough and fair screening in line with the Assembly’s constitutional mandate,” Falgore assured.
In a separate statement, the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, described Maude as a “charismatic and ingenious lawyer” recently conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, while Aliyu was profiled as “one of the world’s leading researchers in mathematics with international academic experience.”
If confirmed, the two appointees will strengthen Governor Yusuf’s cabinet as he continues to implement his policy agenda for Kano State.
