September 21, 2025 – The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Sunday joined prominent Nigerians in celebrating the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on the occasion of her 65th birthday, describing her as a “pillar of love and strength” to her husband, the less privileged, and the nation.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio extolled Mrs Tinubu’s compassion, philanthropy, and long-standing commitment to humanitarian causes. He referred to her as the “Mother of the Nation,” praising her impact on women, youths, and vulnerable groups.
Born on September 21, 1960, Oluremi Tinubu first came to national prominence as the First Lady of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007, where she established the New Era Foundation to promote youth development, public health, and skills acquisition.
In 2011, she was elected senator representing Lagos Central, a position she held for three terms, becoming one of the few women to achieve such legislative longevity. During her time in the Senate, she championed causes related to women, children, education, and social welfare.
Akpabio noted that as First Lady, Mrs Tinubu has continued her advocacy through the Renewed Hope Initiative, an empowerment programme targeting poverty reduction, widow support, and expanded opportunities for women and youths.
“Your Excellency, our dear Mother of the Nation, you’ve proven time and again that love and kindness flow endlessly in your veins. From your years as First Lady of Lagos, to your distinguished service in the Senate, and now as First Lady of Nigeria, your goodwill and undiluted love have been widely acknowledged,” Akpabio said.
He further commended her devotion to family and national service, saying her support has given President Bola Tinubu “the desired impetus to serve the nation effectively.”
The Senate President stressed that the National Assembly values her contributions both as a former lawmaker and as First Lady, noting that her work has advanced the cause of women, youths, and education across the country.
