Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has paid glowing tribute to award-winning Nigerian novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who marked her 48th birthday on Monday.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Obi described Adichie as a “literary Amazon” and a beacon of inspiration whose works have shaped global literature and cultural discourse.
“Chimamanda has blossomed into a true literary giant, whose writings enrich global literature while uplifting humanity. She has used her extraordinary gift to tell our stories with dignity and raise new generations of storytellers,” Obi said.
He praised the author of Half of a Yellow Sun and Americanah for her commitment to feminism, storytelling, and mentoring young writers through literary workshops.
Obi recalled being moved by Adichie’s humility when she returned to her alma mater to honour her teachers, noting that such acts showed her deep sense of gratitude and connection to her roots.
“Her greatness is measured not merely by international acclaim, but also by the way she honours her roots… reminding us that the journey forward is strongest when anchored in gratitude to the past,” he added.
The former Anambra State governor prayed for more wisdom, joy, and strength for the globally celebrated writer in the years ahead.
Adichie, who has received numerous international honours including the MacArthur Fellowship, has long been recognised as one of Africa’s most influential voices.
