Abuja — Loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, under the banner of Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have issued a warning that the party’s upcoming national convention in November will be deemed “invalid” if their resolutions are ignored.
The warning followed a closed-door meeting on Monday night at Wike’s Abuja residence, which included National Secretary of the PDP, Sam Anyanwu, and several former governors. After nearly three hours of deliberations, a communiqué was read by former Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, stressing the group’s commitment to “equity, justice, inclusivity, and the rule of law,” which they said were the founding principles of the party.
Among their demands, the stakeholders insisted that the party’s National Chairman position must remain in the North-Central, in line with the zoning formula adopted at the 2021 convention. They also rejected any form of “micro-zoning,” saying it would undermine peace and stability within the PDP.
The communiqué further called for:
- Fresh, court-compliant congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra States, as well as in the South-East zone.
- Immediate conduct of the Ekiti State local government congress, in line with subsisting court judgments.
- Respect for the outcome of the South-South congress held in Calabar, which was upheld by the courts.
The group cautioned that failure to implement these resolutions would disenfranchise legitimate members and render the November convention invalid.
“The PDP now stands at a defining crossroads,” the stakeholders declared, warning that unity cannot be achieved through “disenfranchisement, exclusion, or disregard of valid judicial pronouncements.”
They stressed that leadership positions must remain open, competitive, and inclusive, in line with the party’s long-standing traditions of fairness.
“The PDP was built on inclusivity, fairness, and justice,” they said. “To reclaim its pride of place as the leading opposition, the party must rise above narrow interests and embrace collective responsibility.”
Despite their warnings, the group reiterated loyalty to the PDP, pledging to work with all organs and leaders to ensure the convention becomes a “watershed moment where unity triumphs over division, and justice prevails over impunity.
