President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian engineer and philanthropist, Olayinka Babalola, on his election as the President of Rotary International for the 2026/2027 calendar year.
Babalola, a member of the Rotary Club of Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt, was elected by the Rotary International Board of Directors following the resignation of SangKoo Yun on health grounds. He will officially assume office on July 1, 2026.
His election marks a historic milestone, as Babalola becomes only the second Nigerian and African to lead the 120-year-old global humanitarian organisation, which has over 1.4 million members across more than 200 countries and territories.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described Babalola’s elevation as a testament to his lifelong commitment to service.
“This recognition reflects your years of dedicated service through the Nigerian Society of Engineers and Rotary International, your laudable philanthropic initiatives, and your relentless pursuit of projects that have strengthened communities and advanced peace, progress, and human dignity,” the President said.
Tinubu expressed confidence that Babalola’s leadership would not only promote humanitarian causes globally but also inspire young Nigerians by showing that vision, integrity, and dedication to service can lead to international recognition.
The President assured Babalola of the federal government’s support as he prepares to take office, wishing him a successful tenure and renewed strength in his service to humanity.
