Abuja, August 8, 2025 — Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has apologised over an incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on August 5, while firmly denying claims that he was caught with alcohol.
In a personally signed statement on Friday, the veteran musician described the incident as “unfortunate” and explained that the flask in question contained only water, in line with medical advice to combat his chronic dehydration.
“Contrary to the negative narrative in some quarters, the flask contained only water — not alcohol,” he stated. “During two separate security checks, the flask was empty. It was only filled with water at the airport lounge before I proceeded to the tarmac.”
K1 further clarified that he had not boarded the aircraft, “let alone being deboarded,” and urged anyone in doubt to verify his account through available CCTV footage.
While expressing regret for the controversy, the Fuji maestro tendered an unreserved apology to the Presidency, the Ministry of Aviation, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, ValueJet, and Nigerians.
“It was never my intention to cause any disruption or violate aviation protocols,” he said. “My loyalty to Nigeria has never been in doubt, and I would never do anything to tarnish the image I have built over five decades.”
The singer reaffirmed his commitment to his role as a cultural ambassador for Nigerian music and thanked his fans for their unwavering support.
