Osogbo | July 24, 2025 — Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has debunked speculations of a looming defection crisis within the state legislature, declaring that all 25 lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remain firmly loyal to the party and committed to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.
This assurance comes in the wake of recent high-profile resignations from the PDP by Senator Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central), and two members of the House of Representatives — Abimbola Ajilesoro (Ife Federal Constituency) and Sanya Ominrin (Ijesa South Federal Constituency). Their exit sparked rumours of possible mass defections within the state assembly.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Wednesday, Speaker Egbedun, flanked by the 24 other PDP lawmakers in the House, dismissed the rumours as baseless.
“There is no division in this House. There is no defection. There is no crisis. The rumours flying around are simply rumours,” Egbedun stated. “We are not for sale. We are not moved by noise or pressure. We hold the mandate of our people and we intend to keep that trust with dignity, loyalty and a clear conscience.”
He further emphasised the lawmakers’ grassroots connection and their alignment with the Governor’s developmental strides.
“The people of Osun are with this Governor. They have seen what he is doing. They have felt the impact of his leadership. They know he is working — and so do we,” he said.
Egbedun also declared the House’s unwavering support for Governor Adeleke’s second-term bid in the 2026 governorship election.
“We are here to declare our full support for the Governor’s second term. In 2026, by the grace of God and the will of the people, we will return him to office to continue the good work he has started.”
He further revealed plans to woo the remaining All Progressives Congress (APC) members in the Assembly to join the PDP, in a move aimed at consolidating the party’s dominance ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The Speaker’s remarks signal a strong internal front for the PDP in Osun, despite external defections at the federal legislative level.
