Abuja, July 10, 2025 — Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, has congratulated Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State on his Supreme Court victory, describing the ruling as a “resounding affirmation of democratic integrity and the enduring will of the people.”
In a statement released on Thursday by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jonathan Eze, the minister praised the apex court’s judgment and lauded Governor Okpebholo’s composure throughout the legal battle.
The Supreme Court earlier on Thursday upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal, which affirmed Senator Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected Governor of Edo State.
Delivering a unanimous ruling, the five-member panel of justices held that the petitioners — the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo — failed to present sufficient and credible evidence to substantiate their claims of electoral irregularities.
Suleiman-Ibrahim said the judgment should be seen not only as a personal victory for Governor Okpebholo but also as a significant moment for the state’s democratic journey.
“This ruling is a testament to the strength of our judiciary and the resilience of democratic institutions,” the minister stated. “Governor Okpebholo’s calm and resolute approach throughout the legal process is commendable, and the verdict offers a renewed opportunity to unify and develop Edo State.”
She urged political stakeholders and citizens of Edo State to support the governor in delivering inclusive governance and sustainable development.
