Jos | July 4, 2025 — The University of Jos chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared an indefinite strike following the non-payment of its members’ salaries for June 2025.
In a message circulated to members late Thursday night, the branch chairman, Professor Jurbe Molwus, directed all academic staff to suspend lectures and statutory meetings with immediate effect.
“This is to request all members to abstain from lectures and statutory meetings if our salary for the month of June 2025 is not paid by 11:59 p.m. today, 3rd July 2025,” the message read.
Molwus said the directive aligns with an earlier resolution of ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC), which empowers branches to take industrial action if salaries are not paid by the third day of a new month.
He also referenced the branch’s congress resolution of June 4, 2025, which reaffirmed the union’s stance on prompt salary payments.
The strike is expected to disrupt academic activities at the federal university, which had only recently stabilised its academic calendar following previous industrial actions.
Efforts to reach the university management and the Federal Ministry of Education for comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
