The Nigeria Police Force has debunked social media allegations suggesting that one of its helicopters was used to deliver food supplies to bandits in Kogi State, describing the claims as false and a deliberate attempt to discredit its security operations.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, clarified that the helicopter seen in a viral video was engaged in a legitimate security operation in the Obajana area of the state on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to address a video currently circulating online, depicting a police helicopter landing and taking off in an area with armed individuals. Contrary to the misleading and false narrative suggesting that the aircraft was used to deliver food items to bandits, the Force categorically states that the video captures a legitimate security operation,” the statement read.
Adejobi explained that the helicopter was deployed to provide aerial surveillance and operational support to ground forces involved in a joint security operation targeting banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminal activity in the region. The operation, he said, involved collaboration between police personnel, local vigilantes, and community hunters.
He reiterated the police’s commitment to transparency and professionalism in its operations and urged the public to disregard the viral video’s misleading interpretation.
The Force also warned against the spread of misinformation, emphasizing that such content could undermine ongoing security efforts and potentially endanger the lives of personnel on the field.
