Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has mourned the passing of Professor Ibiang Oden Ewa, a renowned academic and respected community leader, describing him as a towering figure in the study of military politics and a dedicated public servant.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Governor Otu expressed deep sorrow over the professor’s death, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday after a brief illness. The late scholar was the father of the state’s Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mr. Oden Ewa.
Governor Otu paid a personal condolence visit to the bereaved family, offering words of comfort and support. He emphasized that the loss extended beyond the family, describing it as a significant blow to the entire Cross River community.
“I have always been a big fan of Prof. I read all his books on military politics; he was an authority,” the governor said, highlighting the professor’s intellectual contributions and influence in academic and policy circles.
Otu praised Professor Ewa’s lifelong dedication to public service, academia, and the development of his community, noting that his impact would be felt for generations to come.
