The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industry, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, has called on Nigerians to embrace farming as a way to tackle the rising hunger and food insecurity in the country.
Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, made the appeal on Tuesday while addressing journalists in Ilase-Ijesa, Osun State.
“I am farming. Everybody should farm. If there is no hunger, automatically, we will be thinking right,” the lawmaker said. “Before the end of this year, things will go down. Development is coming.”
He commended President Bola Tinubu for directing state governors to invest in local communities as part of efforts to fight poverty and improve food production, warning that any governor who ignores the directive risks losing credibility.
“That’s an executive order, and I am very sure any governor that does not do that will lose his credibility because of the quantum of money being allocated to them,” Fadahunsi noted.
The senator also urged eligible Nigerians to take part in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, stressing that political participation is vital for inclusive governance.
“I have personally gone around to ensure stakeholders such as kings, custodians of cultural heritage, and community leaders are actively on board. We are encouraging everyone — including longtime settlers like Hausa farmers, Fulani herdsmen, and the Igedes — to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards,” he added.
