Osogbo | July 25, 2025 – Former Osun State Governor and ex-National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has disclosed that Governor Ademola Adeleke is facing sustained pressure to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during an interview on Arise News’ Prime News on Thursday, Oyinlola described the pressure as part of a broader pattern of ruling party tactics aimed at luring elected officials into its fold.
“It feels horrible, I would say, but the fact is that there is always enormous pressure from the ruling party on all elected officers. That’s what is fueling these defections,” he said.
Oyinlola emphasized that Governor Adeleke has so far resisted the pressure, noting that such a move would likely backfire due to the APC’s waning popularity in Osun State.
“Why my governor has not gone is simply because it would be political suicide,” Oyinlola stated. “The APC has not fared well with the people of Osun, and telling him to roll over would mean destroying his political career. The people will not support it, and he knows that.”
He also addressed speculation about his own political future, firmly dismissing any suggestion that he might switch parties.
“I’m a battle-tested general,” Oyinlola declared. “No amount of pressure will shake me. I’ve served as a military administrator, a civilian governor, and a PDP national secretary. I’m not easily swayed.”
The comments come amid ongoing political realignments nationwide, as parties gear up for future elections and strategize to consolidate power in key states.
