Kano, July 23, 2025 — The Nigeria Patriotic Front Movement (NPFM) has announced plans to stage a nationwide peaceful protest on August 1, 2025, to commemorate the victims of the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations held last year.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Kano on Wednesday, NPFM National Chairman, Abdulmajid Daudu, said the protest would honour those who were “unlawfully killed, declared missing, or imprisoned” during the August 1, 2024 protests against poor governance.
“On August 1, we will march across the nation to remember and seek justice for our fellow citizens who paid the ultimate price for speaking out against bad governance,” Daudu declared. “The government should issue an apology to the families of the victims and provide them with compensation in line with the principles of justice and human decency.”
Daudu emphasised that the demonstration will be peaceful and constitutionally protected, warning against any attempt by the state to suppress the right to protest.
“We will not allow state coercion to rob us of our fundamental rights,” he said. “We must assert our voice as civilised people and demand the change this nation deserves. Silence in the face of injustice is an endorsement of oppression.”
The NPFM is also using the protest to push for a number of demands, including drastic improvements in national security, a significant reduction in the cost of living and fuel prices, and the immediate payment of all outstanding pensions and gratuities.
“This protest is not just about remembrance. It is about pushing forward the demands of the Nigerian people. If the regime refuses to act, it should prepare to face the consequence of people’s power,” Daudu warned.
The protest, which will take place simultaneously across major cities in Nigeria, marks the first anniversary of the #EndBadGovernance protests that drew thousands to the streets last year.
