Rabiu Bichi Chairman, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to declare the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Abba Kabir winner to avoid the eruption of violence. The PDP chairman made the warning on Monday while briefing newsmen on the suspension of the governorship election result collation by the INEC. A truck driver has been rewarded for his bravery in the face of intimidation by the police and some soldiers after his tyre was shot by a soldier. The incident happened on Thursday at the border town between Benue and Nsukka, Enugu. A soldier had shot the tyre of a petrol tanker because the driver wouldn’t give him bribe. However, the driver angrily steered his tanker across the road and blocked other road users. Professor Pius Adesanmi, a renowned Nigerian-born Canadian professor, writer and literary critic, satirist, and columnist based in Canada was on the Ethiopian Airlines plane that crashed in the early hours of Sunday. We reported earlier that an Ethiopian Airlines flight between Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, crashed, killing 157 passengers and eight crew members aboard. It has now emerged that Professor Adesanmi, a Professor of English at Carleton University, was among the passengers. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the Lagos State governorship election. He scored 739,445 votes after winning winning in all the local government areas in the state.
