Former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has denied harbouring any presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections, stating that he has no intention of contesting against President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Friday by his media director, Michael Ohiare, Bello expressed shock over the resurfacing of a video from his 2022 campaign rally, which he said was being falsely portrayed as a fresh move to challenge President Tinubu.
“While we state categorically that our principal, Bello, has no 2027 presidential ambition, we also want to stress his unflinching commitment to the re-election of President Tinubu come 2027,” the statement read.
Bello described the social media post circulating the old video as the work of “detractors” trying to mislead the public. He noted that the original 2022 date was clearly visible on banners in the footage, further proving the claims to be false.
“The fabricators forgot that the 2022 dates are boldly written on the banners on display. Yet, they expect reasonable people not to see this as the handiwork of detractors,” Ohiare stated.
He emphasized Bello’s belief in Tinubu’s leadership, adding, “The President and his team have done exceedingly well for the country, despite global challenges. On merit, he deserves the support of well-meaning Nigerians.”
The former governor urged the public to disregard what he called a “senseless post by a confused, witless mind.”
