Rabat, Morocco – July 26, 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent a powerful message of support to Nigeria’s Super Falcons ahead of their clash with hosts Morocco in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), urging the team to secure a historic 10th continental title.
In a statement personally signed by the President and released Saturday, Tinubu praised the Super Falcons’ performance throughout the tournament, describing their campaign as “awe-inspiring” and filled with “pride, honour, and strength.”
“You have carried the hopes of a nation and inspired millions,” Tinubu said. “Your sportsmanship, resilience, and compassion—particularly your visit to the injured South African player, Gabriela Salgado—speak volumes about your character and our shared African values of empathy and unity.”
The President highlighted the Falcons’ unbeaten run in the group stage, their disciplined play in the knockout rounds, and their record of conceding just one goal en route to the final, noting that “if statistics alone win matches, you are already champions.”
Tinubu also reminded the team of Nigeria’s impeccable record in WAFCON finals—nine wins from nine previous appearances—and urged them to “go for the tenth.”
To demonstrate the Federal Government’s full backing, a high-level presidential delegation has been dispatched to the final in Rabat. The delegation includes the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite; Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, among others.
Tinubu also expressed gratitude to the team’s coaches, families, supporters, the Nigerian community in Morocco, and the Nigeria Football Supporters Club for their steadfast support throughout the tournament.
“Go for the tenth! Bring the trophy home,” the President declared. “Your fellow countrymen and women, young and old, are rooting for you.”
He concluded with an expression of faith and optimism: “You will finish strong by the Grace of God. I look forward to receiving you in Abuja—with the trophy.”
The highly anticipated WAFCON final between Nigeria and Morocco will take place tonight at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
