Odigbo, Ondo State – July 29, 2025 — A tragic and gruesome incident has rocked the quiet agrarian community of Odigbo in Ondo State, as a 26-year-old man, identified simply as Daniel, allegedly murdered and beheaded his 17-year-old younger brother, Emmanuel.
According to local sources, the shocking event occurred on Tuesday evening. The suspect, who is the son of a police officer stationed in the area, was reportedly caught after placing his brother’s severed head inside a bag by the bank of the Origbara River.
Although the motive for the brutal killing remains unclear, some residents suspect ritual intent, citing the chilling nature of the crime. Witnesses said the brothers had been involved in a domestic disagreement earlier in the day, but the situation escalated in an unexpected and horrifying direction.
The discovery was made by a local resident attempting to cross the river. Alarmed by the sight of Daniel handling a human head, the resident raised an alarm, drawing the attention of the community.
“I was near the palace when I heard shouting from the direction of Origbara,” said Roland Akinkunmi, a resident. “By the time we got there, Daniel was holding a human head. I was stunned when I realized it was his brother’s.”
Outraged by the crime, youths in the community reportedly apprehended Daniel, dragged him to the town square, and beat him severely. He was later rescued and taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries on Wednesday morning.
“This community does not tolerate the shedding of blood, especially for ritual purposes,” said another resident. “If anyone does such a thing, they are always exposed. This incident has left everyone in deep shock.”
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Mr. Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adebowale Lawal, has ordered a full-scale investigation.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and thorough investigation,” Ayanlade said. “The Ondo State Police Command assures the public that every effort will be made to uncover the full truth behind this disturbing act.”
The incident has thrown the Odigbo community into mourning and raised concerns over rising cases of violence and suspected ritual killings in parts of the country.
