Abuja | September 12, 2025 – President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, as he marked his 73rd birthday and 22nd anniversary on the throne.
In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the monarch as a statesman who has devoted his reign to fostering peace, unity, and reconciliation across Nigeria.
“Etsu Nupe has contributed immensely to nation-building. He has used his revered position to promote unity, harmony, religious tolerance, peace, and reconciliation in the country,” the statement read.
The President also praised the monarch’s humility, courage, and leadership, noting his roles as Chairman of the Abuja Mosque and Chairman of the Coordinating Committee of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria.
Born in 1952, Yahaya Abubakar served in the Nigerian Army, where he held key operational positions before retiring as a Brigadier-General. He ascended the throne in 2003 as the 13th Etsu Nupe.
President Tinubu prayed for the monarch’s continued wisdom, long life, and a peaceful, prosperous reign for the Nupe Kingdom.
