President Bola Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, on the occasion of his 99th birthday.
In a tribute released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised Fasoranti’s lifelong dedication to public service, education, and progressive politics, describing him as “a rare Nigerian who gave his all and served unblemished.”
“Today, I rejoice with the family, political associates, and friends of our dear father, leader and patriarch, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, as we celebrate his remarkable journey of 99 years on earth,” the President stated.
Highlighting the elder statesman’s contributions to education, Tinubu noted that Fasoranti’s career as a teacher, principal, and educationist showcased his commitment to nation-building and community development. He commended the establishment of Omolere Nursery School and Akure High School, institutions that continue to stand as legacies of Fasoranti’s vision and leadership in education.
President Tinubu also acknowledged Fasoranti’s enduring influence in Nigerian politics, rooted in the Yoruba values of honour, integrity, and progressivism. He recalled Fasoranti’s close ties with the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, describing him as one of Awolowo’s most trusted allies and a key figure in the Action Group and later, the Unity Party of Nigeria.
Despite his advanced age, Tinubu said Fasoranti’s intellect remains sharp and his passion for national development undiminished.
“Baba has enjoyed extraordinary grace from God in attaining this age. Even though he appears frail due to old age, his mind remains active and sharp,” Tinubu added.
Pa Fasoranti, a revered voice in Yoruba socio-political affairs, continues to be a symbol of integrity and wisdom in national discourse.
