Last week, the leadership of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) announced a week-long funeral arrangement for the burial of its founder, Prophet TB Joshua. The revered clergyman who was known for his unreserved evangelistic and philanthropic outreaches died on June 5, 2021, few days to his birthday. Sequel to this announcement of his burial arrangements by the church, a press conference was organized where a selected few members of the press were invited in sensitizing the public on the modalities of the anticipated program which is expected to draw global attendance.
Some days after the press conference, the World Health Organisation (WHO) cautioned that the new variant of the covid-19 deadly virus is spreading rapidly to not less than 96 countries around the world. In a virtual statement released by the Director-General of WHO, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who said “globally, there is a lot of concern about the Delta variantâ€.
The Delta variant which is said to be of Indian origin is considered to be the deadliest of all the variants of the deadly covid-19.
As a result, a delegation of the Lagos State Government led by the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, and the Director-General of the Lagos Safety Commission in the company of Director-General of the Lagos Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola visited the elephantine edifice of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) at Ikotun area of the State.
According to Prof. Akin Abayomi, “Of the 71 new cases, Lagos reported 63, while Oyo logged four cases, Ogun had three and Kano one. “A total of 167,803 infections have been confirmed so far, 164,378 of the cases have been discharged and 2,121 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“The four major variants of concern are now classified as Alpha (UK), Beta (South Africa), Gamma (Brazil), and Delta (India). The Delta variant, which has wreaked devastating havoc, is not yet found in Nigeria, hence the need to tighten our borders and be more vigilant,â€.
This was made to the journalist during an interactive session with the church officials, the Commissioner stressed that the inspection was to ensure that the church maintained the covid-19 safety measures protocol and to prevent imported cases of the covid-19 from visiting countries into Lagos, Nigeria.
According to the Commissioner of Health, “On behalf of the Lagos State government, we want to offer our deep condolences to the family of the prophet and members of the congregation. In these very precarious times that we are in, with a global pandemic that is evolving dynamically; what we now know is that there are different strains of the virus circulating the world, and Lagos State has a very strong third wave prevention strategy.
