The family of Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, a late student of Dowen College in Lekki, Lagos State, has officially announced the funeral arrangements for their son. Sylvester, aged 12, tragically passed away on November 30, 2021, after allegedly being subjected to a brutal assault by senior students attempting to initiate him into a cult group.

The Gatekeepers News confirms that Sylvester’s untimely death sparked widespread outrage, leading to protests by civil society groups and women across the nation. However, despite the passage of two years, the quest for justice remains elusive, and controversies surrounding the case persist.

In a statement released on Monday, the grieving family disclosed, “As a family grappling with the profound sorrow brought about by this inexplicable loss, we have chosen to bid farewell to Sylvester on Saturday, January 27, 2024, with final rites to be conducted at Ogbe-Ijaw Warri Kingdom, Delta State.”

The family recounted the heartbreaking events surrounding Sylvester’s demise, emphasizing the alleged role of senior students in his death. Born on December 4, 2009, Sylvester was described as a young mind with exceptional intellect and maturity beyond his years. Known for his passion in computer science, programming, electrical science, and football, his absence has left an irreplaceable void in the lives of his family and those close to him.

The family’s statement urged everyone to honor Sylvester’s memory by reflecting on the bright spirit that enriched their lives and celebrating the intellect that radiated from his young mind. While mourning their son, the family implored the community to join them in demanding justice for Sylvester, emphasizing that he was “murdered in cold blood by fellow students.”

As the funeral date approaches, the family’s call for justice echoes, ensuring that the legacy of Sylvester Oromoni Jnr continues to be remembered amid ongoing controversies surrounding his tragic death.
