In a solemn show of respect and national duty, a high-level delegation from Nigeria arrived in London this morning following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in the United Kingdom after a brief illness.
Acting on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the delegation was led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and a senior government official who confirmed their arrival in the British capital in the early hours of the day.
Upon arrival, they were received at the airport by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, alongside Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, a long-time associate of the late former president.
According to official sources, the delegation will accompany the remains of the late Nigerian leader back to the country, where preparations are underway for his burial in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in line with Islamic rites.
The late President Buhari, who led Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, died in London on Sunday, July 13, after what government sources described as a brief illness. His passing marks the end of a significant chapter in Nigeria’s political history, with tributes pouring in from across the country and around the world.
A formal statement from the Presidency and the family of the deceased is expected later today, outlining burial arrangements and national mourning protocols.
President Tinubu is expected to lead the nation in honouring the late statesman, whose impact on Nigerian politics, military service, and public life spanned over five decades.
