Doha, September 11, 2025 — Qatar has announced that funerals will be held on Thursday in Doha for those killed in an unprecedented Israeli airstrike that targeted Hamas officials in the Gulf state earlier this week.
The Ministry of Interior confirmed that funeral prayers would take place at the Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque, with burials to follow at Mesaimeer Cemetery.
The strike on Tuesday, which marked Israel’s first direct attack on Qatari soil, left five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer dead. Hamas said its senior leaders survived the assault.
Those killed included Humaid al-Hayya, son of Hamas negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, along with Jihad Labad, Hayya’s office director, and bodyguards Ahmad Mamlouk, Abdallah Abdelwahd, and Mumen Hassoun. Qatar also confirmed the death of Lance Corporal Saad Mohammed al-Humaidi al-Dosari, a member of its internal security force.
Speaking to CNN on Wednesday, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said the government could not yet confirm the condition of Khalil al-Hayya himself, fueling uncertainty about the strike’s broader impact.
The incident has heightened regional tensions, with Doha condemning the attack as a violation of its sovereignty. Israel has not commented on the civilian and diplomatic fallout of the strike, which has drawn international concerns.
