The Kogi State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old woman, Charity Williams, in connection with an armed robbery gang during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Oguda village, Okene Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, operatives from the Okene Division stormed Yuwander Lodge following a tip-off, leading to Williams’ arrest.
Items recovered from the lodge included a locally made Beretta pistol, a locally made barrel gun, six rounds of 9mm live ammunition, hard drugs, an axe, four mobile phones, and cash totaling N2,047,300.
Aya disclosed that the room was booked by the prime suspect, Christopher Kadiri, who escaped before the raid. “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend him,” the statement added.
In a separate operation, officers from the Ofu Division recovered a locally made barrel gun, a cutlass, and a Tecno phone in Ogbakpedo village along the Itobe–Ayingba road, after suspected kidnappers abandoned the items and fled into the bush on sighting police patrols.
The Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, commended the operatives for the successful operations, reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling violent crime in the state.
Security experts note that the involvement of women in criminal networks is becoming increasingly common, with female associates often used to rent hideouts, carry cash, or shield fugitives from detection.
Kogi State, a key transit corridor between the North and South, has in recent years faced persistent challenges of armed robbery, kidnapping-for-ransom, and banditry, making police crackdowns crucial to disrupting criminal activities.
