Prominent labour leaders in Oyo State have thrown their full support behind Ayobami Adeogun, endorsing his bid for re-election as the President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the state.
The endorsement was made public on Wednesday during the official flag-off of Adeogun’s re-election campaign held at the iconic Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the state capital.
Among those present were representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), and various affiliate unions. The event signaled a unified front within the labour community in support of Adeogun’s continued leadership.
Speaking at the event, the Oyo State Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Kayode Martins, described Adeogun as “a tested and trusted leader” whose track record justifies another term in office.
“Adeogun’s achievements speak for themselves. Though the number of delegates already committed to him is more than enough to guarantee victory, we want total unity. We want all 36 branches of NULGE in the state to rally behind him,” Martins said.
He added, “Nobody changes a working leadership. It is only when a system is failing that people clamor for change. In Ayobami Adeogun, we have found capacity, dedication, and results.”
The endorsement comes ahead of NULGE’s forthcoming election, which will determine the leadership of the union for another term. Adeogun, who is seeking re-election after a successful tenure, pledged to consolidate on his achievements and continue advocating for the welfare of local government workers across the state.
Observers note that with the powerful backing from labour stakeholders, Adeogun is positioned as the frontrunner in the race, barring any unexpected developments.
