The Osun State House of Assembly has proposed a six-month jail term or a N250,000 fine for individuals caught skating on public roads or sidewalks within the state.
The resolution was made during a committee of the whole session on Tuesday as lawmakers deliberated on the “Osun State Skating Restriction Bill 2025.”
Presenting the report of the committee, Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, said skating should be classified as an indoor activity, adding that the bill seeks to restrict roller skating to designated areas for safety reasons.
Egbedun further stated that the proposed legislation would empower citizens to apprehend violators and hand them over to law enforcement authorities.
The bill also grants concurrent jurisdiction to magistrate and high courts in the state to hear cases related to the offence once it is enacted into law.
