Abuja, Nigeria — The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the resumption of the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS), effective Wednesday, April 30, 2025, following a temporary suspension earlier this month due to technical and operational challenges, including multiple engine failures.
In a statement released by the NRC management, led by Managing Director/CEO Dr. Kayode Opeifa, the corporation expressed sincere apologies to passengers and stakeholders for the disruption in service since April 10. According to the NRC, its engineering teams have worked extensively to address the issues, enhance operational capacity, and ensure improved service delivery.
Under the new schedule, WITS will operate six days a week—Monday to Wednesday and Friday to Sunday. Starting May 1, 2025, train services on Thursdays will be suspended to allow for routine maintenance of tracks and rolling stock.
The NRC confirmed that all passengers who requested refunds during the suspension have been fully reimbursed, while those who retained their tickets can revalidate them for any preferred travel day via the corporation’s e-ticketing platform.
