Abuja | July 17, 2025 — The Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF) have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his “exemplary leadership” and unifying gestures during the funeral arrangements of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London on July 13.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the National Coordinator of the NYF, Sama Musa, the group praised President Tinubu for what they described as a “dignified and respectful farewell” to the late former president. They particularly highlighted Tinubu’s declaration of a one-day national holiday and the order to fly the national flag at half-mast for seven days in Buhari’s honour.
“The passing of Muhammadu Buhari marks a significant moment in Nigeria’s history,” Musa said. “As a leader, he devoted his life to the service of our great nation, advocating for peace, security, and economic development. President Tinubu’s handling of the national mourning is a profound testament to unity, respect, and statesmanship.”
The NYF also applauded the President’s decision to dispatch a high-powered federal delegation, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, to oversee the repatriation of Buhari’s remains from the United Kingdom to his hometown, Daura, in Katsina State.
“This delegation not only ensured that the logistics were handled with the utmost respect and efficiency but also exemplified the collaborative spirit that is essential for a nation to heal and unite in mourning,” the group stated.
The youth organisation described Buhari as a leader whose legacy of integrity, discipline, and public service would continue to inspire future generations. “Buhari’s vision for a prosperous Nigeria was rooted in his deep love for the country and its people,” the statement read. “His tenure was marked by efforts to combat corruption, bolster national security, and drive infrastructural growth.”
Musa also used the moment to call on Nigerians to look beyond political and regional affiliations and embrace the values of unity and patriotism, especially in honouring leaders who have served the nation with distinction.
“The camaraderie displayed during this period is a reflection of our shared values and collective aspirations for a united Nigeria,” Musa said. “The Northern Youth Frontiers stands in solidarity with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration as they guide the nation through this solemn period.”
The NYF urged citizens to uphold the ideals that Buhari championed and to honour his memory by working together for a better, stronger Nigeria.
