The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has dismissed viral social media reports claiming that its Managing Director and veteran actor, Dr. Ali Nuhu, has died.
Speculation began after a Facebook user, Ifeoma Chigbo, shared a video alleging that Nuhu had passed away. The claims escalated when another post suggested that the filmmaker died in a car accident.
In a statement issued Monday evening by its Director of Public Affairs, Brian Etuk, the NFC described the reports as “false, malicious, and injurious.”
“The attention of the Nigerian Film Corporation has been drawn to the purported passing of Dr. Ali Nuhu, its current Managing Director/Chief Executive being orchestrated within the social media space; and wishes to officially and unambiguously inform the general public that the reports, including videos laced with the pictures of Dr. Ali Nuhu, are not only malicious and injurious but false in their entirety,” the statement read.
The Corporation confirmed that Nuhu remains alive, healthy, and fully engaged in his duties, having been appointed Managing Director by President Bola Tinubu on February 12, 2024.
It further warned that measures were being taken against those behind the rumours, stressing that perpetrators would face consequences regardless of intent.
“NFC wishes to draw the attention of perpetrators of these uncouth and dastardly acts, including their sponsors, to the dire and unmistakable consequences of their actions. Meanwhile, appropriate measures have been initiated to arrest this ugly, baleful, and unsatisfactory trend,” the statement added.
The NFC also expressed appreciation to members of the public and industry stakeholders for their concern, urging Nigerians to disregard the rumours.
