Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has reaffirmed his confidence in Nigeria’s potential for greatness, stating that the country possesses all the human and material resources needed to thrive.
Speaking on Monday at the inauguration of new substations of the Geometric Power Plant in Ogbor Hill, Aba, Abia State, Obasanjo said his decision to license the power company during his presidency was rooted in a belief in local capacity and innovation.
The former president praised the progress made by Geometric Power, founded by renowned engineer and former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, as a testament to what Nigerians can achieve when empowered.
“When I was giving you the encouragement, two people came to me to ask why I was giving Nigerians such responsibility — that they would disappoint me. You have not disappointed me, and you did not disappoint all those who supported you to realise this project,” Obasanjo said.
He described the power project as a clear demonstration of the country’s ability to solve complex challenges through self-belief and homegrown solutions.
“The lesson to learn again here, within ourselves, among ourselves, and by ourselves, is that we have what it takes to develop,” he said.
Obasanjo also urged Prof. Nnaji to expand the reach of Geometric Power’s distribution network to other parts of the state, noting that wider access to electricity would drive industrialisation and economic development.
