Governor Bello Mohammed (Matawallen Maradun) has ordered the immediate closure of an illegal “correctional center” in Gusau. The Governor’s order was effected yesterday in Gusau.
Governor Matawalle earlier got wind of the existence of this secret center and immediately ordered his Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaji Mohammed Saddiq Maiturare to lead a team of security operatives to the place.
On arrival, no fewer than 54 male and female inmates were found in the squalid house which serves as the center. The centre was being operated by one Malam Iliyasu Abdullahi Gamagiwa. The inmates were found chained and maltreated.
The security operatives immediately released the inmates and took them to the state remand home and were fed before the next line of action which is to rehabilitate and reunite them with their families.
Malam Gamagiwa told reporters at the venue that his center had existed in Gusau the state capital for many years and that all the inmates were taken to him by their respective families
“They are all delinquents, truants and wayward people I have here. Some of them are thieves, some of them take drugs and some of them even beat their parents”, Malam Gamagiwa said. “Ours is to correct them,” he added.
Governor Bello Mohammed has since directed for the closure of the center and prosecution of its operators.
