Ketu, Lagos | July 19, 2025 — The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) on Saturday cleared an illegal dumpsite located behind 68, Oduntan Street in the Ketu area of Lagos State, as part of its ongoing efforts to enforce environmental sanitation laws and safeguard public health.
The cleanup operation, led by LAWMA’s enforcement team, was carried out following concerns over the environmental hazards posed by the unauthorized waste disposal in the area.
Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @tokunbo_wahab.
“Our LAWMA enforcement team is currently conducting clearance operations at an illegal dumpsite behind 68, Oduntan Street, Ketu,” Wahab wrote. “This morning’s action targets an unauthorised waste disposal area that has been causing environmental hazards in the neighbourhood.”
He added that all accumulated waste at the site had been removed, and surveillance mechanisms would be implemented to ensure the dumpsite does not re-emerge.
Wahab also issued a stern warning to residents against illegal dumping, reminding the public that such acts are in violation of the Lagos State environmental protection laws and pose significant risks to public health.
He urged citizens to embrace responsible waste disposal practices and report infractions promptly to the relevant authorities.
The operation is part of broader state efforts to maintain a cleaner and healthier Lagos through proactive waste management and strict enforcement of environmental regulations.
