The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting persons with disabilities by providing financial assistance to 15 registered disability homes and cluster heads across the state.
In a statement made available to Saturday PUNCH, the General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, presented cheques worth N500,000 and above to the beneficiaries at Alausa, Ikeja.
Oyetunde-Lawal described the initiative as an annual government gesture aimed at helping the homes achieve financial independence, manage daily challenges, and improve the quality of life for residents. She said, “It is part of Lagos State Government’s commitment to social cohesion, ensuring that all citizens, including people with disabilities, have access to opportunities and support.”
She further highlighted that LASODA, in its more than 12 years of operation, has registered 100 associations and continues to expand its outreach to positively impact communities across Lagos State.
Among the beneficiaries were prominent organisations such as the Lagos State Association of the Deaf, Lupus Remedies Global Support Foundation, Albinism Association of Nigeria, Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Lionheart Ability Leaders International Foundation, Dwarfs Association of Nigeria, Dyslexia Nigeria Support and Learning Initiative, Cerebral Palsy Rehabilitation Initiative, Anthony Kupe Foundation, Nigeria Association of the Blind, and the Association for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities of Nigeria.
The support is expected to enhance day-to-day operations and management in the homes, furthering the state government’s vision of inclusive growth and social empowerment for persons with disabilities.
