Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, a public holiday for civil servants in commemoration of this year’s Isese Day celebration.
The announcement was contained in a circular issued on Monday, August 18, by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, and addressed to ministries, agencies, parastatals, and local government councils across the state.
“It is hereby notified for general information that this year’s Isese Day Celebration will hold on Wednesday, 20th August, 2025,” the circular stated.
Reaffirming government’s cultural policy, the circular noted that the declaration aligns with Lagos State’s commitment to promoting indigenous culture, traditions, and heritage while supporting traditional institutions.
“Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has declared Wednesday, 20th August, 2025 as Work Free Day for Lagos State Public Servants in commemoration of the Day,” it added.
Government offices are expected to reopen on Thursday, August 21, at 8:00 a.m. The circular further directed all accounting officers to ensure the information receives wide publicity across their respective organisations.
Isese Day, dedicated to celebrating Yoruba culture, spirituality, and indigenous traditions, has in recent years gained official recognition in Lagos as part of efforts to foster inclusivity and cultural preservation.
