Kano | June 28, 2025 — A funeral prayer in absentia (Salatul Ga’ib) was held in Kano on Saturday for late business magnate and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, who passed away in Dubai on Friday at the age of 94.
The solemn rite took place at the Umar Bin Khattab Mosque in the Kano metropolis and was led by Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, Chairman of the Kano State Council of Ulamas.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), thousands of mourners gathered for the prayer, including top dignitaries such as the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, among other political, religious, and business figures.
Speaking after the prayers, Sheikh Khalil explained that Salatul Ga’ib is traditionally observed for Muslims who pass away in distant lands where funeral rites cannot be performed by their communities. He praised Dantata as a devout Muslim and selfless community leader whose philanthropic legacy left a lasting impact on Nigeria and beyond.
“He lived a life of service, humility, and generosity. His contributions to education, healthcare, and Islamic causes will be remembered for generations,” Sheikh Khalil said.
Dantata is expected to be buried in Saudi Arabia in accordance with Islamic rites. His passing has drawn tributes from across Nigeria, with many describing him as a pillar of commerce and compassion.
