The Jigawa State Government has declared today, Wednesday, August 27, a public holiday in celebration of the 34th anniversary of the state’s creation.
Jigawa, which was carved out of the old Kano State on August 27, 1991, is among states established during the General Ibrahim Babangida administration to promote administrative efficiency and regional development. Others created in the same exercise include Yobe, Enugu, Bauchi, and Kogi States.
In a statement issued by the Head of Service, Muhammad Dagaceri, the government congratulated citizens on the milestone and urged them to take part in scheduled festivities and communal prayers across the state.
Dagaceri noted that the holiday was declared to enable residents “properly participate in the anniversary events and prayers without work distractions.”
He encouraged indigenes to reflect on the state’s journey since its creation, appreciate its progress, and pray for continued peace and prosperity.
“This move reflects the state’s commitment to honouring its unique history and promoting unity and community spirit among its people,” the statement added.
As part of the anniversary, the government also called on residents to pray for the overall progress of Nigeria while working collectively for a brighter future for Jigawa.
