Tehran, June 29, 2025 — Iran’s top military official has expressed doubt over Israel’s adherence to the recently brokered ceasefire agreement that brought an end to a 12-day military confrontation between the two countries earlier this month.
According to a report by the Times of India, the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, voiced “serious doubts” about Israel’s commitment to the truce during a nationally broadcast address on Sunday.
“We did not start the war, but we have responded to the aggressor with all our power,” Mousavi said. “As we have serious doubts over the enemy’s compliance with its commitments, including the ceasefire, we are ready to respond with force if attacked again.”
The remarks come amid continued regional tension, despite the fragile calm achieved through international mediation. While both sides have so far refrained from renewed hostilities, Iran’s warning suggests growing mistrust over the sustainability of the ceasefire.
Mousavi’s comments underscore Tehran’s stance that while it seeks to avoid escalation, it remains fully prepared to defend itself if provoked.
The latest ceasefire, facilitated by backchannel diplomacy involving regional and international stakeholders, had brought a halt to nearly two weeks of deadly clashes that drew global concern. However, with accusations and mutual suspicion lingering, the prospects for long-term peace remain uncertain.
