Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has appealed to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to intervene on his behalf with President Bola Tinubu over his continued presence on the Federal Government’s wanted list.
Igboho, who was declared wanted by the Department of State Services in July 2021 for allegedly stockpiling arms and ammunition, made the appeal on Saturday during a visit to the Ooni at the Ile Oodua Palace in Ile-Ife. He also sought assistance in unfreezing his bank accounts, which remain under government embargo.
Addressing the monarch, Igboho apologised for his previous verbal attacks against him and expressed gratitude for the warm reception he received.
“I want you to forgive and forget whatever wrong I have done. You are my father, and I cannot do away with you. I know you have forgiven me by the way you welcomed us,” Igboho said in Yoruba. “I am here to seek your help once more. My accounts are frozen, and I am still on the wanted list. I believe you are the one who can help me clear my name.”
The activist, accompanied by associates and supporters, also reiterated his commitment to tackling insecurity in the South-West, pledging to mobilise efforts to flush out criminals hiding in the region’s forests.
Responding, Oba Ogunwusi declared that he had forgiven Igboho for his past outbursts and assured him of support in resolving his challenges.
“Some of you have abused me in the past, but I never took it to heart,” the monarch said. “You are my child, and Ile-Ife is your home. What you are fighting for is not for you alone but for the Yoruba people. We will work to ensure that your name is removed from the wanted list.”
The Ooni also urged unity and patience, stressing that peace was essential for the development of Yorubaland.
