One of the headlines that shook the media space is that of an information made available by the US Department through one of its agencies, the Federal Bureau of Information (FBI) alleging that a Senior Ranking Police Officer, DCP Abba Kyari was connected to a $1.1m fraud deal involving Abbas Ramon popularly known as Hushpuppi and his international cybercrime syndicate.
It would be recalled that Hushpuppi was arrested in the United Arab Emirate (UAE) and has since faced several trial in the United States of America, the country where his crime originated from. Following the allegation by the FBI, the Inspector General of Police has ordered the immediate investigation of the case while the Police Service Commission has henceforth suspended DCP Abba Kyari and the IRT (Intelligence Response Team) unit which he heads be manned by another Senior Officer, Tunji Disu.
DCP Abba Kyari has appeared before a special investigation panel headed by Joseph Egbunike, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department. The celebrity cop Abba Kyari pleaded not guilty to the allegations by the FBI.
